The Long Paddock runs from Moama to Wilcannia and follows the Cobb and Co Route. The plan was to do the entire 610km route over a period of 4 or 5 days however Mother Nature intervened.
After leaving Moana on the NSW side of the Murray River we headed north to the small town of Mathoura. About 10km off the Highway was the Barmah Forest on the banks of the Murray River. This was an important area in development of the Forrestry Industry.
After here we headed further north to the town of Deniliquin where we enjoyed time wandering through the parks and gardens adjacent to the CBD area and viewing some of the old buildings.
The Long Paddock (Cobb Highway) is bitumen until Ivanhoe and then dirt from there to just outside Wilcannia. Due to flooding further north I phoned the Ivanhoe Shire to get a road report only to be advised that all dirt roads in the area were closed and would be for an indeterminate time.
As I still had Wilcannia on my bucket list we decided to go the long way around via Balranold, Wentworth and Broken Hill.
