After picking up Rhonda from Emu Park I headed back into Rockhampton to fuel up and restock the pantry. I then decided to take the opportunity to watch the new Elvis movie on at the cinema. I quite enjoyed it and then stayed the night in Rockhampton before having a couple of nights at a roadside near Milman followed by a night at Sarina beside the Caltex Service Station.
At this stage it was school holidays and with several days of rain forecast I decided to head inland where caravan parks were much cheaper than the coast. I booked in for a week at Nebo at only $10 per night including power and water. I ended up spending 10 days here. A great little town to relax in. The river here rises rapidly when it rains and whilst I was always safe, the main road to the west of town was cut for several days due to flooding.
After Nebo I headed up to one of my very favourite places in Australia, Lake Proserpine. I had a very enjoyable week here before a night at Gumlu Tavern. Managed to win a couple of prizes in the Friday night raffles. A chocolate lovers pack (biscuits, chocolates etc) and a $50 scratchie pack made up of $1 and $2 scratchies. From that lot I won $27. The next night I caught up with a fellow Coaster owner traveller at Guru.
My destination was Townsville to catch up with a relative I had not previously met. The lady was married to a second cousin who had spent most of his adult life living in PNG and who passed away 35 years ago. I have started researching my family tree and it was good to connect a few dots on my paternal side.
