Mannum SA

We spent a bit of time in this lovely riverside town. They have a terrific Museum at the Information Centre including time aboard the Paddle steamer Marion. It is still operational and does cruises of up to a week in length. There’s something romantic about a cruise on the river.

The museum has a lot of interactive displays and you can easily spend a couple of hours here. I brought a book also on the history of Mannum. There is just the one Main Street of shops and nice to see a small country town with very few vacant shops. Had a choice of 2 bakeries.

There are 2 car ferries that cross the river here during daylight with one continuing to operate overnight. There is cheap ($10pn) camping on the banks of the river across from the town but we stayed just out of Murray Bridge at Avoca Dell Caravan Park and commuted the 25km.

We did a 1.5 hour cruise on the river on the Paddle Wheeler Mayflower Only one other couple so had a very personal tour with 3 staff aboard. We all got to have a steer. It’s not as easy as it sounds to keep it in a straight line.
