Books Read 3 (103)

The Stockmen by Rachael Treasure

Whilst a novel, the story traces the establishment of the Australian working Kelpie dog by John (Jack) Gleeson in the 1860’s. The historical story is interwoven into the modern day story of a young woman who loses her fiancé in a car accident and begins to raise kelpie pups while researching Jack Gleeson fir a story in the local newspaper. A “happily ever after story but not before going through plots and dramas of farming life. Well written and an enjoyable read.

Mixed Blood by Roger Smith

A heavy hitting no holds barred type of thriller set in Cape Town, South Africa. Drugs, sex, racism and foul language all combine. When a cop turns rogue then killing in cold blood becomes a by product. It’s somewhat sordid in detail but the underlying storyline was fast moving and action packed to the end. If colourful language is not your thing then give this one a wide berth.

The Dry by Jane Harper

This was a great story with a movie based on the book recently released. I really enjoyed the story based on a fictitious Victorian country town. With so many potential suspects it had a surprising revelation. Worth seeking out and I look forward to seeing the movie.
