Books Read 3 (142)

No Man’s Land by David Baldacci

Another fantastically gripping story from this acclaimed thriller writer. Fast paced and with the usual twists and turns this was one of those hard to put down books. Each chapter finishes with the reader begging for more. One of the best.

Forerunners by Constance Tisdall

I picked this book up while on my visit to the Victorian gold mining town of Walhalla. The author wrote this book as a retired teacher in 1961. Her parents were both teachers and helped shape education in Victoria from the mid 1800’s. Many in the Tisdall – Weeks family went on to become teachers and the tradition continued through ensuing generations. A fascinating and enlightening look into the education system of the 1800’s and early 1900’s. I was reading the final chapters of this book whilst a passenger on the Tilt Train from Brisbane to Rockhampton . The lady sitting next to me happened to be a Deputy Principal of a school in the Bundaberg region. I was pleased to be able to pass the book onto her when I finished it just before her stop. Her husband was also a teacher and sh told me one of her daughters was also training in the education field.

Way Out West by Christine Adams

A compilation of pastoral stories of western NSW. It was interesting to learn the history of various pastoral leases since from the late 1800’s to the present day. The author was born in Broken Hill which is where I brought this book.
