After leaving The Grampians I had an overnight stop at Colac. I had a look around the town before stopping at the lake about 12km north of the town. It was a beautiful place with a lot of vans and motor homes there.
The next day I headed to Ocean Grove to meet up with some friends for lunch. That night I stopped in the Woolworths carpark at Curlewis, as it was close to where my friends were staying at their son’s place. During the afternoon I went for a walk down to the bay (outer harbour) before my friends came over for a while. My battery light had been staying on during the afternoon so next morning I went to a battery place to get it checked out. Two new starter batteries were purchased but the alternator was also found to be stuffed so one was ordered.
After spending the rest of the morning walking around the CBD of Geelong and having a look at Kardinia Park I headed to Teesdale to stay with a Primary School friend for the weekend. We had not seen each other since 1971 so it was a special time catching up on each other’s lives.
The following day we toured Otway National Park and visited the Otway Fly Treetop Walk and after lunch we did the Triplet Falls walk before heading down to Cape Otway Lighthouse. We didn’t go up to the lighthouse tour but instead chose the cliff top walk to the east. It was an overcast day so couldn’t see very far out to sea. I will come back here at a later date when I complete the Great Ocean Road.
We headed back up to Winchelsea via some winding country roads with such beautiful scenery. So green and lush looking.
The next day we drove down to Barwon Heads and followed the coast around through the seaside suburbs of Ocean Grove, Port Lonsdale, Queenscliff, Swan Bay, St Leonards, Indented Head, Port Arlington and Clifton Springs. Although cloudy and overcast, the coastal scenery was spectacular in places. Had a look at the fort at Queenscliff and the lookout where you could see over to Sorrento and The Mornington Peninsula.
Before I left Geelong I had a new alternator fitted and then I headed north.
