After leaving Aramac and Muttaburra I headed north again up to Flinders Highway. On this stretch of road I had a flat inside rear tyre so went straight to Pentland to try to get it fixed. My tyres are an odd size (16.5) so they had to come out from Townsville so after stopping a night in Pentland I went on to Charters Towers to have 2 tyres replaced. That’s 4 new tyres in the last 2 months!
I had no intention of going into Townsville so turned right at Woodstock to cut through to the Bruce Highway at Giru. I stopped at a Nature campsite at Majors Creek and then a night at Giru at the town’s RV Camp near the Hotel. I had stopped here before and wanted to watch the AFL Grand Final on the big screen. Decked in my Richmond gear I headed to the pub but was the only one interested. I got to watch the Tigers win their third premiership in 4 years and as there was no one else in the bar they closed and cleaned up around me, allowing me to watch the presentations before kicking me out! The pub would have been rocking the following night when the Rugby League final was due to be played.
Giru is a sugar mill town and the sweet smell of sugarcane wafts around in the air all night. After here I stopped at Ayr to replenish the cupboards, restock the fridge and do some washing.
