December 2016

With December being such a busy month, I only managed to get away for one weekend and I saved the best until last.

I had planned on heading east to Trigwells Bridge for New Year. A couple of hours before I was due to head off I had a text from friends to say they were heading up from Margaret River to Potters Gorge and would like to catch up with me. I hadn’t seen Brett and Claire for a few years so at 2pm with Rhonda packed, I turned right instead of left and was at Potters Gorge in half an hour.

How good is this place, and only 30 minutes from home!

Potters Gorge, on Wellington Dam WA,  has been done up extensively. Heaps more bays put in, each with a picnic table and a fire pit. There are 54 bays in total. Quite a number of long drop toilets scattered throughout the camping area as well as several camp kitchens with gas BBQ’s. Camp Managers Stephen and Diane came around about 5pm to collect $10.00 pp per night. Excellent value I thought. Stephen was saying that they had spent $2.8million on the improvements. There is also a dump point and bulk rubbish bins.

A very relaxing weekend. Didn’t see the New Year in. Must be getting old. I was in bed by 10.30pm. Sunday (New Years Day) went for a drive around Wellington Dam and to Honeymoon Pool where we had camped a few times when the kids were little, the last time probably 15 years ago. Honeymoon Pool has changed a little, now only available for tents, and weren’t they crammed in. There’s a platform to jump off into the river. Plenty of fun to be had for kids and adults alike.

Now that the clock has ticked over to 2017, I only have 3 more years until I am out there in the playground full time. If the speed of last year is anything to go by then 2020 will be here before I know it.
